Courtyard Washington, DC/Dupont Circle

Rand Construction led the retrofit of an existing Marriott property, Courtyard Washington, DC/Dupont Circle. GHT provided mechanical and electrical engineering design services for the design-build project, which included the renovation of floors two through nine; removal and installation of the building’s roof; replacement of rooftop mechanical systems; and upgrade of all exterior glazing.

The building system upgrades included replacement of an air-cooled chiller and fan coil units, as well as new HVAC systems for each room. The design and construction team worked closely during the window replacement, as the mechanical renovation required the replacement of window mounted Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner (PTAC) units. An additional project challenge was the design of a custom air intake system for each room through the window system. The team collaborated on 10 design iterations to develop a solution that received Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) approval and met standards for window construction and HVAC design.
