This build-to-suit facility serves as a dual headquarters for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Northern District and the Virginia State Police (VSP) Division 7, and also houses a Snow Emergency Operations Center (SEOC). The building features a comprehensive telecom and security infrastructure and an uninterruptable power system (UPS) that provides constant power and cooling to the data center, VSP office, and SEOC. The mechanical system includes two large air cooled chillers and one small one, which can be run by only the UPS during power outages.

The project team is pursuing a certification level of Silver under the LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations™ rating system. Sustainable features include daylight harvesting and occupancy sensor lighting controls that reduce energy usage, and Harmonic Mitigating Transformers (HMT) on every other floor to improve electrical usage efficiency.
