The retrofit and tenant fit-out of Arlington County's Warren G. Stambaugh Human Services Center required the reconfiguration of existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure to properly serve a wide variety of specialty spaces. In addition to standard office space, the facility offers a fitness center; conference center with 100-seat conference room; private interview rooms; interview rooms with an attached viewing room; nurses’ stations; medical examination rooms; a small dental suite; and independent reception areas for each of the five divisions housed in the building.
The project achieved a certification level of Gold under the LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations™ rating system. To support the sustainable design, GHT used the building's existing condenser water system to support a floor-by-floor variable air volume (VAV) system, primarily relocating existing VAV terminal units and diffusers. Additional supplemental air conditioning units were added to serve the fitness center, conference rooms, and local area network (LAN) room. Motion sensors were installed to help reduce energy consumption due to lighting.
