Marymount University Caruthers Hall and Rose Benté Lee Ostapenko Hall

© Dan Poyourow

Caruthers Hall is an academic center for Marymount University’s natural sciences and health sciences programs. The four-story building features classrooms, laboratories, and faculty offices for the School of Health Professions, Department of Biology and Physical Sciences, and the Department of Mathematics. The environment was designed to support research, collaboration, and hands-on learning. Classrooms feature Wi-Fi, touch screen displays, and enhanced audio capabilities that meet the tech demands of today’s students. On the first floor, Lola’s Café offers a place to unwind and connect over coffee and light fare.

The building features more than 11,000 SF of laboratory and support space, encompassing a walk-in environmental cold room with precision controlled temperature and humidity; a chemical waste neutralization system; and 15 lab spaces for Anatomy, Environmental Sciences, Microbiology, Kinesiology, General Biology, and Cell Biology. GHT handled the special mechanical systems requirements for ventilation, as well as the need for compressed air, vacuum ports, and data and electrical connections, some of which are attached to back-up power generators.

Adjacent to Caruthers Hall is Rose Benté Lee Ostapenko Hall, a six-story, apartment-style residence for returning and transfer students. Resident amenities include common lounges with televisions, seating, and kitchen space; shared laundry facilities on each floor; a 24-hour security desk; fitness center; and underground parking. The project team achieved a certification level of Silver under the LEED for New Construction™ rating system for the development.
