George Mason University Academic VII/Research III

George Mason University (Mason) has initiated the design of a new academic and research building to support its growing College of Health and Human Services. It is intended to be a new campus landmark, drawing visitors from a striking entry lawn that will face George Mason Boulevard.

The new learning environment will support the Departments of Global and Community Health; Health Administration and Policy; Nursing; Nutrition and Food Studies; Rehab Science; and Social Work. The building will also be home to Mason’s Center for Health Policy, Research & Ethics (CHPRE) and Center for Chronic Illness & Disability (CCID).

The building program is planned to distribute 60% of space to academic Instruction; 23% to research; 10% to university classrooms; and 7% to clinical practice. Amenities will include a 5,200 SF roof garden; healing garden; wetland area with a rain garden; amphitheater with terrace; 100-seat conference center; Dean’s conference room; administration and office space; student activity center and café; and clinical practice and community outreach areas.
