American University is home to the largest School of International Service in the United States. The program’s new 70,000 SF classroom and administration building serves 3,000 students and 90 full-time faculty members. The project achieved a certification level of Gold under the LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations™ rating system. Sustainable features include:

  • The first LED-lit parking garage in Washington, DC
  • High efficiency building envelope and lighting and HVAC systems  designed to exceed ASHRAE 90.1 criteria by 40%
  • Rain water harvesting for site irrigation and toilet flushing
  • Green roof featuring 7,000 SF of solar panels
  • Low-flow faucets and fixtures to reduce water consumption
  • Daylighting strategies that filter natural light to interior spaces
