Commercial Offices< back to project showcase

National Geographic Society Headquarters

This multi-phase project included the new construction of a 240,000 SF office building on M Street; renovation of an existing 80,000 SF office building on 17th Street; and the historic renovation of Hubbard Memorial Hall. The central plant system developed for the new M Street building utilizes heat recovery chillers to efficiently cool and heat the building.

GHT’s more than 30-year relationship with the National Geographic Society includes ongoing facility upgrades. Most recently, the team provided MEP engineering design for replacement chillers, boilers, and photography labs at the M Street office that adhere to DC’s green building requirements. We also provided ENERGY STAR® Benchmarking for the 17th Street office. The M Street building achieved a certification level of Silver under the LEED for Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance™ rating system.
