Choice Hotels International (Choice) has initiated the move of its corporate headquarters to Rockville Metro Plaza II in Rockville Town Center. Choice is pursuing Certification under the LEED for Commercial Interiors ™ rating system for the 138,000 SF space. The project poses interesting challenges, as design for the tenant fit-out has begun prior to the start of base building construction.
Part of GHT’s role is to recommend base building modifications that can make LEED certification easier to achieve. Sustainable design features include a 35% reduction in water use compared to a baseline building; occupancy sensors; lighting and temperature controls; energy efficient supplemental HVAC systems; task lights with occupancy sensor control; measurement and regulation of outdoor airflow rate via airflow monitoring and electric sub-metering.
