GHT's "Boost Building Performance with Innovative MEP Systems" presentation will provide attendees with 1 AIA Learning Unit. To schedule a session in your office, contact us.
Overview
Commercial office buildings consume vast amounts of energy in order to provide comfortable, productive environments for their occupants. Understanding, controlling, and reducing this consumption must be accomplished without damaging the quality of the internal environment. This session, presented by senior MEP engineers from GHT, will highlight techniques and technologies that have been successful in increasing building efficiency and reducing total energy use. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of how these principles work and how they can be implemented into a building project.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will become familiar with standard techniques to measure building energy use and discover how these techniques can be utilized to identify energy conservation opportunities.
- Participants will be able to explain the advantages of using liquid to transport BTU’s through a building for heating and cooling versus forced conditioned air.
- Participants will discover how generating energy on-site can create efficiencies and drastically reduce a building’s carbon footprint relative to traditional power generation and transmission schemes.
- Participants will understand how advanced building controls can conserve energy by delivering heating and cooling to individual spaces only when they are occupied.
- Participants will be able to identify sources of water that could be harvested for non-potable uses (flushing, irrigation) in a building.
